belgian parliament votes in favour of law against burka

136 of 138 members of the Belgian parliament voted in favour of a law which bans women from wearing a burka in public spaces in Belgium. The law doesn’t mention the burka but instead bans people from “wearing clothes which hide parts of the face or the complete  face with the effect that the person is not identifiable”. It is perceived to be a law against women wearing a burka, as there are already laws against hiding your face in public space. There are also exceptions for people participating in carnivals planned. This law is the first banning muslim women from wearing Burkas  in a climate of anti-muslim agitation taking place in several European countries.
